Haven't had a chance to test the console to see if everything was connected properly. I did remove the optical drive, as I never use it. Without the optical drive, the console will probably load much faster, and also use less electricity. My laptop certainly loaded faster without it.
I know that I won't be able to use CDs/DVDs, but I have every game installed on the storage drive, so I never need to swap out discs for any of the games. I actually never used it, believe it or not.

Just tested the console, with nothing changed, other than the optical drive not being connected. It booted faster than it did before, and now I'm installing 3.7GB of updates. An error screen keeps popping up, only to then disappear immediately, and resume updating.

* Original title: Can An Xbox One Be Used As A Windows 10 Desktop?
Since I recently got an Xbox One S, I'm now thinking about turning my old Xbox One into a Windows 10 PC. Here's the link to the discussion I created about this, as it has more information about the subject:

Hi Hyp3rDeath101
The Xbox One cannot be used as a standard PC, while it does actually run a variant of Windows 10 kernel, due to the hardware architecture (processor . . . etc.), it is not possible to install regular Windows onto an Xbox One . . .

I certainly know that, when the console finished downloading and verifying an update, it was unable to apply the update, as it had detected an issue with the optical drive. I had disconnected the optical drive because it seems to be useless for me, as all my games were downloaded onto the console digitally. After I reconnected the optical drive, the console was able to apply the update. Since I was thinking about turning the console's power supply brick into an internal one, I think that I could remove all parts of the optical drive, except for its motherboard. Because the wires would still be connected to the drive's motherboard, I think that the Xbox will still detect the optical drive, allowing it to work properly.

Also, if I were to format a storage device with my laptop, the Xbox wouldn't have to deal with setting anything up. Since the storage device had Windows 10 already completely set up, the console might boot into Windows 10.
If this doesn't work, I'll try to get an HDD/SSD optical drive bay caddy and basically have 2 storage devices connected at the same time. I might put the storage device that has Windows 10 on it in the slot where the console's storage device is located at.
If that also didn't work, then there are several other ways that I could try...

Just remembered that there were 2 HDMI ports on the back of the console... I can connect another HDMI cable to one of my laptops... Could I connect the HDMI cables in a way where that the Xbox One would be used to process the graphics?
If so, I'll probably still try to install Windows 10 on the console eventually...

Also, is it possible to upgrade my Xbox One's HDD to a NVMe M.2 SSD? I can use a NVMe M.2 SSD adapter so that the SSD will be able to run at its full potential.
The reason why I want to do this is because yesterday I tested the console by playing GTA 5, which tends to use very demanding graphics. I did notice that the console had a bit of trouble keeping up, which was unusual. I already have high-end thermal paste for the heatsink, and the cooling fan works fine. So the only other thing that would cause performance issues would be a dying hard drive. I believe that the HDD is starting to wear out, as my Xbox One never had any issues before while running GTA 5.
I played on my console almost every day since the time I got it, up until I got my Xbox One S.

Finished doing the network transfer, and did a hard reset on my old Xbox One. When I downloaded GTA 5 onto my old Xbox's hard drive, the game was downloaded at a reasonable speed, which means that the hard reset fixed the hard drive.
I also looked at the hard drive connections, and they seem to look like the usual connections of an average hard drive. The only difference is that the last 4 connectors aren't used to connect the Xbox's hard drive to the motherboard. I did notice that, on the Xbox 360 Slim, all the connections of the hard drive were used.
So if I can connect the console's HDD to one of my laptops with an external SATA to USB 3.0 cable, maybe I could change the boot settings... Maybe if I can configure the settings so that the HDD is used as the booting device, I might be able to change the booting software... I would need to put the HDD back into the console to see if it works.
If it works fine, then I can then change the booting software to the booting software used for Windows 10. Then I'll have Windows 10 installed on the hard drive, and then I'll see if the Xbox One will boot...

Just checked the specifications of the hardware for an Xbox One, and it has all the requirements to run Windows 10. It also has the x86-64 instruction set, which is what Windows 10 uses... it has 8GB of DDR3 RAM, which is more than enough, and it has a decent graphics clock of 853 MHz, which is more than my HP laptop, which has a graphics clock of 847 MHz. Wi-Fi for it is good, as the console stays connected to the Internet until the Wi-Fi crashes. Only thing I need to do now is to see if downloading Windows 10 onto its HDD using my old Toshiba laptop will work...
Since my old laptop doesn't automatically download the manufacturer's software, I can easily get all the drivers downloaded automatically without any bloatware. This will allow me to then plug the hard drive into the laptop using an external SATA to USB 3.0 cable to download the AMD graphics drivers, which is what the Xbox One uses for its graphics. After the AMD graphics drivers are set up, I can then plug the hard drive into the Xbox One and see if it boots.
